A lot more laughing . . .
Our son E_____ was diagnosed with Asperger’s and ADHD four years ago, and had been taking Seroquel and Zoloft to control his aggression, sleeping and anxiety problems. He would become easily irritated because he didn’t get something right away or didn’t understand what was being told to him. He was pale with dark circles under his eyes and would hardly eat anything. Although he did seem to start getting better, he was still having a lot of aggressive, sometimes violent, behaviors. We were fed up, and didn’t want to increase his dosage of psychiatric meds again.

We would always question ourselves if we were doing the right thing by just putting him on medication without ever knowing if there was something medically wrong with him that could be treated. I found an article in the Women’s Journal about the ASD Centers. The staff there is very caring and helpful. E____ had medical testing done through blood work and the doctor went over the all of the results with us and made a treatment plan for him.

Since starting the treatment plan, E____ is no longer on the psych meds. He’s pleasant to be with and his creativity, that was lacking when on the psych meds, is back. He’s eating more and a wider variety of food, which was limited before due to his sensory problems. He falls asleep at a normal time. His skin color is back to normal with no dark circles under eyes. The main problem with aggression is almost gone. Since E_____ has been on the treatment plan, there has been a lot more laughing and a lot fewer tears in our house.

This is the first clinic . . . that really listens

My son N_____ has moderate to high autism. We began going to the ASD Centers in April. Since meeting with the doctor and starting treatment at the clinic, I have seen changes in my son. He is communicating more, trying to play with toys and starting to do everyday normal activities on his own. N_____ was on eight different psychiatric medicines when we started, and we were able to take him off of three of them so far. This is the first clinic that we've been to that I feel really listens to us and has paid attention to his needs.

Relief from being under siege...

We were basically under siege in this house...This kind of behavior is more scary at 18 [than] at 3. I had choices to make. If you see there is another option out there that can help your child, most parents are going to choose that option...The kids don't understand. They have impulses. It's what happens when you have high testosterone...The therapy immediately stopped the aggression...It's just lowering the [testosterone] levels enough to normal range so the kid is not aggressive.

Improved Mood, Transitions, Sleep, & Anxiety...
On Lupron the boy's moods improved, he could switch activities more easily and he could complete tasks. He couldn't sleep through the night and he was 'anxiety boy'...Now he is a pretty calm kid. Talk to people at school, the speech therapist and the respite-care workers...They know. We had a day where we had not given the shot yet, and the speech therapist said I won't work with him until you give him the shot.

Our Son is Back...
A child sneaks out of the house, runs away, is hyper, has minimal focus and can't socialize with friends for more than a minute. People think the answer to autism and ADHD are psychiatric medicines, but we knew that was only going to cover up his symptoms. Despite this, we tried several main stream treatments that produced little to no results. We prayed for God to show us how to understand and help our son. After four years of searching, Dr. Mark Geier, was the first doctor to help J__ medically, even before the autism bill was passed. In the six months that J____ has been on Dr. Geier's protocol through the ASD Centers, he has experienced much improvement with his focus, learning ability, behavior and overall well being. Early intervention is important for children on the autism spectrum and we thank God that we were led to the ASD Centers. J____ now has a treatment that we can trust will improve not only his life but the lives of our entire family.

Relief from Frustration...The Results Have Been Wonderful
Frustration. Miriam Webster defines it as, "a deep chronic sense or state of insecurity and dissatisfaction arising from unresolved problems or unfulfilled needs." However, we describe it as, "Watching your child, whom you love dearly, struggle repeatedly with emotional and behavioral control issues, learning issues, depression, anxiety and bouts of anger, all the time having one doctor after another just prescribe one psychiatric medication after another, all to no avail."
This seemed to be the cycle we were caught in with our precious daughter. Doctors would go from one medication to another, adding this drug and that drug and changing from this one to that one. Each change brought its own unique set of problems, but none ever resolved the original issues.
Fortunately, after relentless research, we found a site that had information about the ASD Center in St. Peters, Missouri. After reviewing their information, my wife and I did additional research, placed a call to the clinic, asked a few questions and then decided we wanted to speak with Dr. Geier. We soon had an appointment to have an assessment done for our daughter.
At our initial consult at the ASD Center, the doctor reviewed our completed questionnaire answers regarding issues related to our daughter. He then looked at us and said, "I see your child has been on many different psychiatric medications. Has anyone ever done a complete blood work-up on your child to make sure that there aren't other explanations for her struggles?" My wife and I looked at each other as if to say, "Why?" Why hadn't this taken place before all of this medication had been prescribed? The Light definitely went on for us with that initial question.
After a complete blood and urine work-up, the results revealed that she had 26 problematic issues. These areas showed her levels were out of the norm for a child of her age and size. The doctor spent an enormous amount of time reviewing all of the information and explaining in detail the possible impacts of each of the areas that were out of range. Learning the list of symptoms that were associated with the abnormal ranges was identical to the complaints and problems she experienced and for which she had been treated.
After much discussion, we took her off all of the psychiatric medications, (which incidentally had begun to affect her liver), and implemented a regimen of proper nutritional and supplemental vitamins and enzymes indicated by her abnormal blood test issues. She also began treatment of some hormonal issues with some prescribed medication.
The results have been wonderful. We're extremely happy with the improvements we're witnessing. This isn't to mislead anyone into thinking that everything is now perfect; however, with the results our daughter is experiencing from the treatment through the ASD Center, combined with counseling with a child therapist, the difference between her "before and after" is like night and day.
We've gone from feeling totally helpless to having a tremendous amount of excitement for her future.
We can't say enough about the staff at the ASD Center - they're nothing short of amazing! They truly care for the people they serve and go out of their way to assist you in any way that they can. If you or your child suffers with any issues on the autism spectrum, depression, anxiety, Aspergers, behavior, ADD/ADHD, anger control, emotional control or other similar symptoms, I highly encourage you to give them a call. See if they might also be able to bring hope, and most importantly, health and balance back into your life or the life of your loved one.

I Would Recommend the ASD Clinic to Anyone's Whose Child has ADD
March of 2010 my son C___ was having trouble in school and dealing with anger problems at home. We took C____ to his pediatrician to discuss his problems. Talking with the pediatrician for 10 minutes C_____ was diagnosed with ADD and prescribed medication that he could start right away. We were not ready to medicate C____ with just a discussion and wanted a second opinion. We made an appointment with the ASD clinic after hearing about them and how they evaluate kids with ADD.
Dr. Geier talked with my husband and me about our son and the problems he was having at home and in school. After dosing various tests it was discovered that my son didn't have ADD but extremely high levels of tesotsterone (premature puberty). We discussed the course of action to help lower the testosterone levels. Once we were educated on the course of action we started C____ the recommended medications and vitamins.
C____ has been on this plan for almost 1 year. We have been back to Dr. Geier for follow-up and discussions. C____ has made big improvements and his anger levels have dropped. I would recommend the ASD clinic to anyone whose child has been diagnosed with ADD.
